The Flat Belly Diet – My Most Successful Diet Ever!

After decades of being hungry, so I could fit into my bikini, I finally found a diet that lets me eat wonderful food and not be hungry. It’s called the Flat Belly Diet. I thought well this is a gimmick just like all the others – just count your calories and don’t waste your money. But then I saw that it was from a nutritionist that works with Prevention Magazine on a regular basis and thought that I would give it a try.

It’s based on the good fat/bad fat principle that you might have heard about – specifically MUFAs. That’s monounsaturated fatty acids if you haven’t read up on this diet. There are all different kinds of MUFAs and they all do different things.

Olive oil is the most commonly known monounsaturated fatty acid. But there are others as well, peanut butter, chocolate, avocado, walnuts, almonds and safflower oil. The trick is to eat one at each meal and snack a day.

Your food is spread out over 3 meals and a snack. Each of which is 400 hundred calories. To plan a meal, you pick your MUFA and note the number of calories in it. Then you add a protein, potatoes or rice, and fruits and vegetables.

Technically this is a diet for life and not a weight loss diet, that’s why you get 1,600 calories a day. Most women will find that this is about what they should be eating. Of course if you’re overweight, you’ll lose pounds slowly until you reach your desired weight.

I have to admit that I did find meal planning a bit confusing until I got used to all the different MUFAs and how many calories are in them. So I did purchase a few of the Flat Belly Diet cookbooks. Because they incorporate so many delicious ingredients, the meals are delicious. They are also very filling.

My favorite is a chicken breast that’s sauteed in olive oil and peppers and then is topped with an avocado spread that even has a little bacon added to it. I usually pair it with a small spinach salad. Totally delicious.
